Wedding goes from modest to mega in a day

Mercury Bridal Expo winner Kirstin Dennison celebrates with fiance Tim Giovas yesterday after learning their wedding budget has gone from $10,000 to $50,000.Until yesterday, newly engaged couple Kirstin Dennison and Tim Giovas had been planning a modest wedding with a budget of $10,000.Today they’re set for the wedding of a lifetime after Ms Dennison, 25, was announced winner of the Illawarra Mercury Bridal Expo’s $50,000 Ultimate Wedding Prize Package. The prize includes everything for a dream wedding, from a bridal gown to the reception and Fiji honeymoon.Ms Dennison, a site manager of Mangerton, met Mr Giovas, a grocery manager of Shellharbour, last year and they became engaged about a month ago.But with Ms Dennison’s twin sister Jennifer becoming engaged two weeks earlier and setting her date for 2011, Ms Dennison and Mr Giovas, 34, decided to delay their wedding until 2012.The sisters attended yesterday’s bridal expo, although Ms Dennison and her fiance left before the prize draw because they didn’t think they could win.”All week we’ve been saying we’ve never won anything in our lives and Tim said that perhaps with both our bad luck together, maybe it would get us a win,” she said. When the Mercury called with the good news, the couple was grocery shopping: “You’re kidding! Oh my God! Awesome,” Ms Dennison cried. “We were looking at around $10,000. And now – now! We’ve got everything!” Mr Giovas added.
