“We’re ready to go and could get on Austar straight away if the exclusivity agreement can be removed,” TVN’s manager of new media, Brad Fraumano said.

Although Foxtel subscribers in Melbourne’s metropolitan area can access TVN Fraumano said Tasmanian punters were in the same situation as regional Victoria.

“There are a lot of mad keen racing people in regional areas who want to see Victorian racing,” he said.

“We’ve asked Sky Channel, in the interests of those people watching to watch Victorian racing, to remove the exclusivity agreement which prohibits us getting on the Austar platform but unfortunately they’ve chosen not to do so,” he said.

“Until they change their minds it’s a little bit out of our hands.

“We’re doing what we can to allow Tasmanians to watch the races and hopefully there will be another meeting at some point,” he said.

He said he would encourage subscribers to contact Austar and voice their disappointment at the present situation.

An Austar spokeswoman confirmed she had fielded a lot of inquiries about the racing coverage into Tasmania.

Tote Tasmania has arranged for all its Tote retail outlets to have a TVN service running in tandem with Sky Channel from next Wednesday.

TVN has offered its Foxtel subscribers a yearly service for $12.
